Shortlisted in two categories for the UKSTT Awards!

This is the third set of awards that Catsurveys have been shortlisted for in 2018! We have been announced as finalists in the following categories of the UKSTT Awards:

  • Application of Digital Technology
  • Young Professional

The UKSTT (United Kingdom Society for Trenchless Technology) is a registered charity involved in the development and promotion of Trenchless techniques. Following the success of the awards in 2016, UKSTT announced earlier this year that the 2018 Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with Westrade and No Dig Live, taking place on Wednesday 19th September.

Application of Digital Technology

The criteria for the Application of Digital Technology asked for a narrative of why the type of digital technology we used was chosen, the problem that it was helping to solve and how we have positively impacted the industry with this technology.

We chose to enter with the Desktop Utility Record Searches (DURS) system that we are currently utilising in our works. We created this unique, bespoke and easy-to-use online database-driven Geographical Information System (GIS) for DURS.

The systems developed have enabled us to ensure the timely, efficient and cost-effective collation of statutory undertakers’ drawings. Once an area has been requested all users of the digital system have access to download the information until expiry. A direct by-product of the system and semi-automated process is the decreased project risk and increased safety of all involved with the design, diversion, survey and excavation of buried infrastructure. A DURS pack is the first stage of planning intrusive works.
