Catsurveys Celebrate Living Wage Week

It is Living Wage Week from Sunday 5th to Friday 10th November 2017 and Catsurveys are celebrating that we are accredited as a Living Wage Employer. We are extremely proud to be a part of the Living Wage Foundation; an ethical organisation which calculates the basic cost of living in the UK annually. As a company, we are driven by the skill and enthusiasm of our team, and for this we believe they should be rewarded.

The new Living Wage rates are announced on Monday 6th November and as an accredited employer, Catsurveys are committed to implement the new rates by the end of the financial year.

Becoming a Living Wage Employer

Back in 2014, the Catsurveys Board committed to become part of the Living Wage Foundation, whereby every employee is provided with a salary that exceeds the National Minimum Wage. This was a fantastic commitment to ensuring that our employees feel the benefit of our success and the appreciation of being part of our team.

In 2016 we went one step further by becoming a London Living Wage Employer with an enhanced base hourly rate, even though we are not within the catchment area under the foundations guidance.

"At Catsurveys we are a value driven organisation, and our most important value is 'Our employees are our greatest strength'." says Michelle Ball, HR Manager at Catsurveys.

"The fact that our organisation has chosen to voluntarily join the London Living Wage Foundation speaks volumes to me as HR Manager; it demonstrates that not only do we say our values are to respect and cherish our staff, it proves it too!"

Why you should do it too!

We believe that our employees are our most important assets, and they deserve to be rewarded with a level of pay that gives them a better standard of living. Since committing to the Living Wage Foundation accreditation, we have noticed a great increase in staff morale which has benefitted not only our team, but the business too! Below are some statistics from the Living Wage Foundation:

  • 90% of consumers agreed that pay should reflect living
  • 87% think companies should voluntarily pay the real living wage
  • 93% University Students want to work for living wage

The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate that is voluntarily paid by businesses who believe their staff deserve a fair day's pay for a hard day's work. The total number of accredited employers in the UK currently stands at 3,592.

Katherine Chapman, Director of the Living Wage Foundation said:

“Year-on-year, we see organisations and businesses across the UK embracing the real Living Wage as they recognise that a fair day’s pay is not only the right thing so to but can improve the quality of staff’s work, reduce absenteeism and increase motivation and retention.”

“Today’s increase acknowledges that the cost of living continues to rise for workers everywhere and the leadership shown by businesses who welcome this is a cause for celebration during Living Wage Week, sending a positive message to the business community to show what others can achieve.”

Moving in the right direction

The Living Wage Foundation are creating a positive movement; over 150,000 employees have received a pay rise because of the Living Wage campaign. With the Government's mandatory inclusion of the 2016 National Living Wage (not to be confused with Living Wage foundation) introduced for workers aged 25 and above, now is a really important time to raise awareness of the foundation and how they continue to improve the lives of thousands.

Although the increased National Living wage is a step in the right direction, it isn't calculated based on actual living costs. Instead, it is based on a target to reach 60% of median earnings by 2020 and under current forecasts this equates to a rise to less than £9 per hour.

A 'thank you' goes a long way

At Catsurveys we strive to be an 'employer of choice' within our industry and we want our staff to have the best possible working environment. We voluntarily pay our employees above the 'London Living Wage', even at entry level, despite being based outside of the London catchment area.

Other employee benefits include flexible working hours, extra holidays rewarded for time spent in employment and the opportunity to purchase additional annual leave. By treating our staff like one big family, Catsurveys is rewarded with higher productivity which in turn raises morale. Everyone is a winner!

Our commitment to our staff doesn't stop there; we have an 'Appraisal System' in place to ensure that hard work and achievements are recognised. Also, our'Employee of the Month' scheme allows our team to nominate any member of staff for outstanding behaviour and gives them the opportunity to be awarded for their achievements as a thank you from the company.

Catsurveys are proud to have held the Living Wage Employer accreditation since 2014. We have been awarded the 'Living Wage Employer Mark', which we plan to uphold indefinitely.
