International Women in Engineering Day 2019
Sunday 23rd June marked International Women in Engineering Day; an awareness campaign to raise the profile of women in engineering and focus attention on the amazing career opportunities available in this exciting industry. The theme for 2019 was #TransformTheFuture.
We spoke to one of our Land Surveyors, Kinga Kereszturi, about what it means to her to be a woman in engineering:
"I think engineering is a vague expression that covers all kind of different fields, many sectors of many industries from working in an office to facing challenges on site. When I chose to be an engineer, I had the urge to create something, to leave a mark that lasts for generations. Just like an artist, but in a more mathematical way.” Explains Kinga.
“I find engineering challenging for both men and women. It’s a responsible job and I’m proud to be the part of it."
It is important that we celebrate awareness days like this and encourage much needed gender equality and increased inclusion for women across the construction, engineering and housing sectors.
By creating a more inclusive culture in an industry that is predominantly male, we have opportunity to employ from a wider pool of candidates and create a truly diverse workforce. Life and work experience from all – irrespective of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disability - is paramount to achieve an all-inclusive culture and is something we prioritise at Catsurveys.
